Zyhia Johnson again led the Panthers in points (23) with an incredible offensive performance, but it was not enough for LC to secure a win. The Panthers dropped the game 85-64. Amanda Mclendon also played great tonight. The forward grabbed six rebounds and scored 10 points while shooting 50% from the field. Daniella Aronsky scored a team-high for Emory with 19 points.
First half details
The Eagles started the game firing on all cylinders. They went on a 21 point run to begin the game and did not look back. At the end of the first quarter, Emory was up 29-9. Annika Bonds led LC in points (4) this period. Despite being down by 20, the Panthers continued to battle in the second quarter. The best Panther play of the half came with three minutes remaining in the half. Skylar Edwards stole the ball from the Eagles guard and finished the play by hitting a contested layup. Emory led 54-30 at the break. Zyhia Johnson scored the most Panther points (8) while shooting 50% from the field and 40% from the free throw line.
Second half details
Amanda Mclendon came out of the break on fire. In the first three minutes, she went 3-3 on layups and made two rebounds. Both teams traded points back and forth until the third quarter ended with the Eagles up 76-47. The Panthers showed great resilience coming out in the fourth quarter. In the first four minutes of the period, LC went on a 15-3 scoring run to close the Eagle lead to 79-62. The best play of the half happened when Laila Battle found Zyhia Johnson in the corner for the sharpshooter to knock down a three pointer. The scoring run was too little and too late for LC to come all the way back. Emory won 85-64.
Emory seemed to have all the answers tonight. Not only did they play well, but LC only shot 33% from the field, 15% behind the arc and 56% at the free throw line.
Next game details
The Panthers head to Tennessee to rematch Sewanee on Saturday (Nov. 17) at 6 p.m. The following day, LC plays Principia at 1 p.m.
