At 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday (Dec. 6), the Panthers take on Point University in Mariotti Gym. Following this game, the men's team faces Point at 7:30 p.m.
The teams
The Panthers are currently 6-2 and are coming off of a 2-0 weekend at the Covenant Classic (Dec. 1-2). LC beat Asbury 66-58 and then the following day crushed Regent 97-70. Junior guard Zhyia Johnson leads the Panthers in scoring with an incredible 18.2 points per game, shooting a steady 56% from the field and 36% beyond the arc. On average, LC has scored 75 points and held their opponents to 68 per game. The Panthers suffocating defense has stifled opponents to a weary 36% field goal percentage and 26% three point percentage. As a team, the Panthers have shot a consistent 41% in the field and 28% from three. The Skyhawks of Point are 4-4 and most recently beat Mobile University 61-51 (Dec. 2). Senior guard Mataea Boyd leads the Skyhawks in scoring with 15.4 per game, shooting 51% from the field and 43% from three. The team averages 64 points per contest and has allowed opponents to score an average 60 points.
The series
In recent history, the two teams have only played once. In that meeting, Point won 60-43 over LC (Dec. 7, 2022). In that game, the Panthers shots were just not falling. LC shot a season-low 21% from the field and 12% beyond the arc.
