Following consecutive road games, the Panthers return to Mariotti Gym to face CCS opponent Berea this Friday (Jan. 12), at 5 p.m.
The teams
The Panthers are 9-3 (3-0 CCS) and are coming off of a dominant 71-49 win over the Scots of Covenant (Jan. 6). In that game, LC scoring leader Zyhia Johnson was forced to check out of the contest early with an undisclosed injury. One player that stepped up was forward Amanda Mclendon. Mclendon scored 13 points, while shooting a superb 67% from the field. She also accounted for an assist, a pair of steals and three rebounds. Another player who stepped up after Zyhia went down was guard Laila Battle. While running the offense, Battle scored a team-high 15 points, shooting 44% from the field. She also grabbed two rebounds, a steal and had one assist. It is still unknown whether Zyhia will return to competition against Berea (Jan. 12) or Maryville (Jan. 13) this weekend. The Bears of Berea College are 10-2 (3-0 CCS) and most recently crushed Agnes Scott College 83-40 (Jan. 6). Sophomore forward LynKaylah James leads the Bears in scoring with 12.4 points per game.
The series
The Panthers are 2-8 against the Bears in women's basketball. The last time the two teams met, LC won 74-59 (Feb. 10, 2023). In that win, Zyhia Johnson scored a Panther-high 18 points, shooting 50% from the field.

The game is at 5 p.m. this Friday (Jan. 12) Mariotti Gym. The CCS matchup is available to be streamed here. Following the conclusion of the game, the men's team takes on the Bears. The Panthers will return home to face Maryville on Jan. 13, at 2 p.m.
