The women's basketball team tips off CCS play today (Jan. 2) at 3 p.m. against Belhaven. After the game, the men's team plays Belhaven in the away doubleheader.
The teams
The Panthers are 6-3 and most recently lost to Point 66-60 (Dec. 6). Since then, the team also competed in two exhibitions against DI teams Georgia State and Samford. Zyhia Johnson leads the team in scoring with an incredible 19.6 points per game. The Georgia native, has shot 33% from three and a superb 48% from the field. The Blazers are 2-7 and are coming off a 84-50 win over CCS member Wesleyan (Dec. 14). Guard Shantashia John averages a team-high 12.8 points per game for Belhaven. The sophomore has shot 35% from the field and 33% from three in the six games played.
The series
The Panthers are 1-1 all-time against the Blazers. The last time the two teams played, Belhaven won 82-67 (Feb. 11, 2023)
