The Panthers rematch Sewanee (Nov. 17) and Principia (Nov. 18) in this weekend's Hoops Classic.
The teams
The Panthers are 2-1 and are coming off a loss to Emory (Nov. 14). Zyhia Johnson leads LC in scoring with an outstanding 20.7 points per game. The 2022-23 First Team All-CCS guard has also grabbed an average of 5.3 rebounds per game. The Sewanee Tigers are currently 0-2 and most recently lost to LC 70-61 (Nov. 12). Olivia Falvey is the lead scorer for the Tigers (18) in the two games played. Sewanee faces Berea College before the tournament this weekend (Nov 15). Principia College is 0-1 and are coming off a 91-66 loss to Knox College (Nov. 13). Taylor Brown scored the most points (12) for Principia. Like Sewannee, Principia plays another game before this weekend's tournament (Nov. 15).
The series
The Panthers have never faced Principia College. This is most likely due to the fact that the school is located in Elsah, IL (10 hours north of LC). LaGrange College beat Sewanee 70-61 in the CCS-SAA Classic (Nov. 12). Taylor Smith led in scoring with 15 in the win over Sewanee. Kayla Antoine scored a team-high 19 points against the Panthers. While LC did lead the whole game and won by nine, it was not an easy win. The Tigers were able to bring the Panthers lead to just 53-51 with only seven minutes left. LC was able to lock-in and secure the win but it was a nail-bitter until the last buzzer sounded. Both games should be fun and competitive matches for the Panthers.
When and where
