LAGRANGE, Ga. – No. 2 Seed LaGrange (19-6, 13-3 CCS) women's basketball looks to continue a record-setting season as they host No. 6 Seed Covenant (8-17, 5-11 CCS) in the quarterfinals of the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tournament on Wednesday, February 22. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at historic Mariotti Gymnasium. Admission will be $10 per ticket.
The Panthers claimed the second overall seed with one of the best seasons in team history, and one that has the opportunity to break the program record for wins in a season in the NCAA DIII Era. They are one win shy of equaling the 2010-11 squad's 20 victories (20-5) and have already tied the 2011-12 team's 19 wins (19-9) for the second highest since 1999-2000. They enter the tournament having won 11 of their last 13 games.
Covenant comes in having dropped four of their last six, including a 69-56 loss to LC on February 15. Most recently they defeated Huntingdon (2/18) by a 61-50 score. The winner of the quarterfinal will face the winner of No. 3S Piedmont and No. 6S Huntingdon on Friday, February 24 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
ALL-TIME SERIES
LaGrange leads the all-time series 21-6 dating back to a 63-41 loss on November 25, 2000. From there they would go on to win 13 of the next 14 over the next 17 years before Covenant claimed three of the next four through February 9, 2019. Since then the Panthers have claimed seven of the last eight, including a 73-59 victory on February 12, 2022 in Lookout Mountain, Georgia and a 75-50 decision at Mariotti Gymnasium on January 17. Most recently LC posted a 69-56 decision on February 15.
