SAVANNAH, Ga. – LaGrange men's golf would show composure beyond their years as the primarily freshman contingent held off a late charge to earn the Port City Invitational Championship on Tuesday, March 7. The Panthers fired off rounds of 297-297-313-907 over 54 holes to take the top spot.

The victory is the first for the program since a 36-hole win at the Callaway Invitational on March 2, 2020 in their final tournament prior to the pandemic. Additionally, it is the first 54-hole championship since claiming the Jekyll Island Invitational on March 20, 2016.

Leading the way, as he did nearly the entire way, was freshman Jeremy Edmunds (Charlotte, N.C.) who notched rounds of 72-72-76-220 to finish 3-of-92 and earn All-Tournament honors – coming in just one stroke behind the leaders.

He was joined in the Top-10 by freshman Eli Rogers (Athens, Ga.) who delivered a 72-76-77-225 performance to tie for seventh. Freshman Martin Prlender (Cordoba, Argentina) tied for 20th at 77-75-79-231 to round out the top performers.

"I can't put into words how proud I am of this group of young men," said head coach Shannon Lipham. "They fought through adversity all day. We are the youngest team in the country and for them to do what needed to be done, coming down the stretch, it was amazing. You've got to give Hampton-Sydney credit too as they made it really close late."

Indeed they did as they nearly closed a 10-stroke gap entering the final round, getting to within one stroke, 907 to 908 before the Panthers pulled out the victory. Rounding out the top five were Maryville (923), Hampden-Sydney-A (924) and Wittenberg (931).

"Hats off to Jeremy Edmunds for finishing third and earning All-Tournament after being in complete control all three rounds," added Lipham. "What we learned today will help them the rest of their college golf careers."

LaGrange is now off for 10 days until returning to the course from March 17-19 at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. That Friday-Sunday tournament will be played at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
