DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont used a big second quarter to top LaGrange 16-9 in a USA South game Wednesday night. The Panthers are 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference with the loss. Piedmont improved to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
Ryan Comeau had three goals for LaGrange, giving him 28 on the season. Peyton Gale and Jack Bryan had two goals each, while Aidan Story and Ben Bryan a goal each. Story's goal was his team-leading 35th of the season. Piedmont's Avery Jenks had five goals, giving him a conference-leading 50 for the year.
Jenks opened the scoring with his first goal four minutes into the first quarter. Gale and Comeau answered for LC with goals for a 2-1 lead. The Lions came back with two goals in a 39-second span to retake the lead. Comeau tied the game off an assist from Gale with 26 seconds left in the period.
But the second quarter was all Piedmont. The Lions outscored the Panthers 6-0 in the period, scoring the first two goals in a 13-second span. Jenks had two more goals in the period as the Lions took a 9-3 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers were able to get within five on Story's man-up goal in the third period. The Lions built an eight goal lead in the fourth quarter. Jack Bryan's goal with 1:27 remaining closed out the scoring for the 16-9 final.
The Panthers go on the road Saturday to face Methodist in a USA South game.
