LAGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange (2-3, 0-0 USA South) scored three of the first four goals but a 10-3 run mid-game was too much to overcome as Birmingham-Southern (4-1, 0-0 SAA) notched a 19-7 victory in an NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game on Wednesday, February 22.
The Panthers jumped out ahead early as senior midfielder Jack Bryan (Carrollton, Ga.) connected 49 seconds in and sophomore attackman Ryan Comeau (Canton, Ga.) drove home a second goal off a pass from senior midfielder Ben Bryan (Carrollton, Ga.) for a 2-0 lead at 13:27.
BSC would get on the board with a goal from Raymond Fracchia at the eight minute mark but freshman attackman Luke Young (Acworth, Ga.) answered with one of his own with 6:53 on the clock.
The tide would turn dramatically at that point, however, as Birmingham-Southern delivered six straight goals with Fracchia adding a second and Cameron Herd and Reid Harrison notching two apiece to power to a 7-3 lead by the 6:46 mark of the second period. The teams would then trade goals to take an 8-4 margin into the break.
It would not stay that way for long as BSC erupted for five straight goals from four different players over the first eight minutes to put the game out of reach at 13-4. From there they would score six of the final nine goals, including five of the sixth in the fourth, to lock up the 19-7 victory.
Robert Marquet delivered four goals and four assists to lead Birmingham-Southern while Herd had three goals and a pair of assists. Austin Johnson and Fracchia each added three scores and Harrison tagged a pair to round out the offense and Nathan Pepe played all 60 minutes in goal, making three saves and allowing seven goals.
Comeau led the way for the Panthers with four goals on six shots and Jack Bryan added a goal and an assist. Senior FOGO Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) dominated the center "X", going 23-of-30 with 13 groundballs and senior goalie Isaac Bohrer (Fayetteville, Ga.) played 46:33, making 17 saves but suffering the loss to fall to 2-3.
