USA South Release

ROME, Ga. – A record-setting season continued to produce new benchmarks for LaGrange men’s lacrosse as they earned the first Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference selection in the program’s four-year history as the USA South announced its 2023 postseason honors on Wednesday, May 3.

Senior goalkeeper Isaac Bohrer (Fayetteville, Ga.) was named DPOY and First-Team while freshman attackman Luke Young (Acworth, Ga.) earned Second-Team honors. Bohrer also becomes the first player in program history to earn multiple All-Conference honors after landing on the Second-Team a year ago. The only other individual to get the nod on either team was Ben Bryan last season as he earned Second-Team recognition.

In addition to Bohrer and Young’s recognitions, senior FOGO Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR/FIRST-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE – ISAAC BOHRER

Bohrer earned the league’s top defensive honor following a year in which he played in 16 of 17 games between the pipes, starting each of those while posting a 14.97 goals against average, 220 saves and a 6-9 mark in over 730 minutes.

On the year he led the USA South in saves and was second in save percentage at .552 while recording 13 games of double-digit saves. Of those he recorded 22 against 2022 USA South Champion Southern Virginia (3/18) as well as at Greensboro (4/1).

In a full 60 minutes against Carroll (3/11) he allowed just five goals and three in 45 minutes against Oglethorpe (2/18). Playing the first at Brevard (3/25) he shutout the Tornados in what would be a decisive 23-2 victory.

SECOND-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE – LUKE YOUNG

Young delivered a freshman campaign for the ages, lighting it up with 51 goals and 15 assists for 66 points to go with 31 groundballs, six caused turnovers and a shots-on-goal percentage of .597 (89-of-149) in all 17 games and 16 starts.

An offensive force, he would produce at least one goal in all 17 games, and 10 times had at least three in a game. Highlighting that would be a seven-goal explosion at Greensboro (4/1) along with seven more points, this time on five goals and two assists, in his very next outing.

That would come in a thrilling 21-20 victory over Methodist (4/8) and Young would top that with six goals and two assists for a career-high eight points in a 17-15 victory at William Peace (4/29) in the regular season finale. He would also drill five goals and add an assist at Brevard and scored three and assisted on two more in his first collegiate contest, that being a 17-7 win over Point.

More than just offense, he would also snag multiple groundballs nine times, including three with a personal best two caused turnovers in the Methodist game. Young picked up a career-high four groundballs three times, doing so against Oglethorpe, Carroll and William Peace.

As a result of those impressive performances he earned a whopping six USA South Rookie of the Week honors – by far the most by any player in the 2023 campaign.
