LAGRANGE, Ga. – No. 4 Seed LaGrange (8-8, 4-4 USA South) men's lacrosse has earned their first postseason bid amid a record-setting season and will host No. 5 Seed Methodist (6-9, 4-4 USA South) in a USA Quarterfinal on Tuesday, May 2. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at Callaway Stadium.
In their fourth season the Panthers set a program record with eight wins, doing so with a 17-15 victory at William Peace (4/29). The 2023 campaign also saw perhaps the most thrilling game in program history – and it will be a rematch that will take place in the USA South Tournament. On April 8 LaGrange pulled out a 21-20 victory over Methodist at Callaway, pulling that out in the final seconds.
Since that narrow one goal loss the Monarchs have won three of their last four, including over Greensboro (4/12), Brevard (26-3 on 4/15) and Huntingdon (18-9 on 4/29). Their lone loss in that time was an 18-9 drubbing at league champion No. 1 Pfeiffer (4/19).
The winner of the quarterfinal matchup will travel to Misenheimer, North Carolina for a meeting with the top seeded Falcons.
SERIES HISTORY
LaGrange is 2-0 all-time against Methodist, with the only previous meeting prior to this year coming on April 23, 2022. The Panthers took that meeting by a narrow 15-13 score in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The other was the one goal thriller earlier this season .
