FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - LaGrange picked up a key USA South win Saturday with a 15-13 win over Methodist. The Panthers evened their conference record at 4-4 and improved to 7-8 overall.
The victory keeps the Panthers in the hunt for a spot in the upcoming USA South Tournament. The Panthers face Greensboro (9-6, 5-3 USA South) next Saturday at Panther Field in the final regular season game.
"Today was a great day for our program. We went out against an experienced team and fought for four quarters" said Coach Brandon Sewell. "We knew they would fight back but we kept our composure and finished strong. It was a full team effort to keep us alive in the race to make the conference tournament, but Isaac Bohrer continues to lead us with his outstanding play in the goal."
Aidan Story, Michael Poteete, and Ryan Comeau each had four goals to lead the Panthers. Story's four goals give him 39 for the season and 60 points. He is ninth in goals and tied for sixth in points in the USA South stats. Bohrer had 21 saves in goal for LC.
Methodist scored the first two goal of the game. With Comeau scoring three goals and Poteete two, the Panthers took a 5-3 lead. The Monarchs got a goal in the final minute to make it 5-4 going to the second period.
In the second quarter, the Panthers scored five times over an eight minute period to take a 11-5 lead. Story and Ben Bryan had two goals each during the run as LC led 11-6 at halftime.
The Panthers added to their lead in the third quarter and were up 14-8 going to the fourth and final period. The Monarchs rallied, outscoring the Panthers to make it a close final score.
