BREVARD, N.C. – LaGrange (5-5, 1-1 USA South) brought an unstoppable offense to bear on Brevard (2-8, 0-3 USA South) that they would have no answer for as they would go on to deliver a 23-2 victory in an NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game on Saturday, March 25.
It would be all Panthers right from the very beginning as senior midfielder Klein Woods (Macon, Ga.) hammered one home at 12:16 while sophomore attackmen Ryan Comeau (Canton, Ga.) and Andrew Brown (Metairie, La.) hooked up at 8:12 for a 2-0 lead. Senior midfielder Ben Bryan (Carrollton, Ga.) then hit paydirt just over two minutes later to stretch it to a three-goal margin.
Much like the Top-40 countdown, the hits would just keep on coming as Brown found freshman attackman Luke Young (Acworth, Ga.) at 5:47 and Young would then go back-to-back as he took it himself at the 1:21 mark. That 5-0 lead at the end of one would continue to grow, beginning with junior attackman Michael Poteete (Evans, Ga.) driving one home at 12:43.
Sophomore midfielder Anthony Dalessandro (Canton, Ga.) would get his first point of the season as he found Brown with just over nine minutes on the clock and Woods took it himself at 6:15. Embracing the philosophy of it being just as good to give as receive, Brown then dished to Comeau who buried it just under two minutes later for a 9-0 advantage.
In one of their most explosive bursts of the season, the Panthers would register four goals in a span of just 1:04. That would be headlined by Young delivering back-to-back scores once again, the second off another pass from Brown, while Comeau connected with Poteete and sophomore midfielder Holden Samuels (Woodstock, Ga.) found Brown at the 2:35 mark. That outburst would send them to the break up 13-0.
The rout would continue in the second as the third would see LaGrange drive home seven more goals, nearly half of that total by Woods, with Young adding a score and an assist. The Tornados would finally break through at the 7:06 mark, however, as Drew Pond found Finnegan McCormack to help cut it to 20-1 heading to the fourth. The final 15 minutes would see just four total goals as the Panthers closed out the 23-2 victory.
McCormack and Gage Khayat would notch the only goals for Brevard while Pond had the lone assist to account for the offense on the day. Lucas Harvey would force a pair of turnovers and pick up three groundballs and Will Scoggins led the way with seven groundballs. Jack Hicks started and allowed 22 goals while making 16 saves to take the loss.
Woods would lead the charge for LaGrange with six goals while Young registered five scores and an assist. Brown would help to fuel that offense, not only with four goals of his own but four assists for eight points. He would be joined by Comeau with two goals and a pair of assists and two goals from Poteete.
Dalessandro would add two assists and Samuels chipped in with a goal and an assist and senior FOGO Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) collected eight groundballs. Senior goalkeeper Isaac Bohrer (Fayetteville, Ga.) played the first half, making five saves and shutting out BC in his 30 minutes to pick up the win and move to 4-5.
