LAGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange (7-6, 3-2 USA South) men's lacrosse will recognize five seniors and then give them the opportunity to upend the USA South standings as league-leading Piedmont (9-4, 5-0 USA South) comes to town for a 7 p.m. showdown on Wednesday, April 19.
After having seen their game against Warren Wilson cancelled due to personnel issues within that program, the Panthers have won three of their last four games as they demolished Brevard (3/25) by a 23-2 score, handled Huntingdon (3/29) 17-7 and fell at Greensboro (4/1) by a 15-10 score. Most recently they delivered a thrilling 21-20 victory over Methodist (4/8) last time out.
The Lions, meanwhile, have been the class of the conference thus far, winning six in a row after narrow defeats to Bridgewater (12-10 on 3/1) and 12-11 in overtime against Sewanee (3/7). Their current streak has seen them down Virginia Wesleyan (13-11 on 3/14), Methodist (17-11 on 3/18), William Peace (14-8 on 3/24), Brevard (24-6 on 4/5), Huntingdon (19-10 on 4/7) and Pfeiffer (15-13 on 4/15). The latter was a meeting of league undefeateds and gave PU sole possession of first place.
SERIES HISTORY
LaGrange is 0-3 all-time against Piedmont, having dropped all three decisions over the past two seasons. The Panthers fell 18-6 in Demorest, Georgia on April 2, 2021, 25-5 at home on April 18, 2021 and 16-9 on the road on April 20, 2022.
QUITE THE CAREER
Prior to the game the Panthers will recognize five individuals and their families for their contributions to LaGrange men's lacrosse. Returning after graduating in the fall is defenseman Josh Hill (Port Richey, Fla.) along with goalkeeper Isaac Bohrer (Fayetteville, Ga.), goalkeeper Joshua Hargrove (Norcross, Ga.), faceoff specialist Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) and midfielder Jack Bryan (Carrollton, Ga.).
ON THE BRINK
In just the fourth year of the program, and third full season accounting for the pandemic shortened 2020 campaign, LaGrange men's lacrosse continues to establish themselves and are one step away from another milestone. Entering the game the Panthers have won seven games, tying the program record set last season when they went 7-9.
