NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a rarity in recent games, LaGrange's (4-4, 0-0 USA South) offense could not keep pace as Capital (3-2, 0-0 OAC) raced to a 26-11 victory in an NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game on Sunday, March 12.
The Comets scored the first three over the first 8:10 as Drew Bolen (13:18), Brenden Pelton (9:35) and Aiden Manning (6:50) assaulted the net before junior attackman Michael Poteete (Evans, Ga.) got the Panthers on the board at 6:07. That would be the first of four goals over the next five to draw LC even at 4-4 by the 3:39 mark.
It would not last, however, as Bolen then ignited a stretch where Capital scored 10 of the next 12 goals to end the half with a 14-6 advantage. He would register three during that outburst while Pelton notched a pair.
That margin would grow to 21-9 after the Comets outscored LC 7-3 in the third and they would add another five goals, against two allowed, in the fourth to close out the 26-11 victory.
Capital would see 12 different players score, highlighted by five from Mason Spaulding and four apiece from Pelton and Bolen. The latter would add three groundballs while Charlie Howenstine finished with a pair of goals and three assists. Jake Belt had a pair of scores and three assists as well and Ian Michaud finished with two goals and an assist. Freddie Noday had six groundballs and Sam McInturf allowed 11 goals against eight saves in new to improve to 3-2.
Sophomore attackman Ryan Comeau (Canton, Ga.) led the way for the Panthers with four goals and an assist while freshman attackman Luke Young (Acworth, Ga.) had a pair of scores and an assist. Poteete would add two goals to round out the offense while senior FOGO Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) won 16 faceoffs and picked up eight groundballs. Senior goalkeeper Isaac Bohrer (Fayetteville, Ga.) played a half and made 10 saves against 14 goals allowed to suffer the loss to fall to 4-4.
