BEREA, Ky. - Berea defeated LaGrange 72-50 in a USA South game Saturday. The Panthers are now 6-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The host Mountaineers improved to 9-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
"This was a really tough matchup today with Berea College," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "We played a really good first quarter and then just couldn't score in the second quarter. Unfortunately, our cold shooting carried over to the third quarter as well. Regardless of the final outcome, I was proud of our effort for all four quarters. I thought we competed but were up against some tough odds today."
Marilauren Farr led LC with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Johnson followed with 13 points. Austin Richardson had 10 rebounds to go with four points.
Farr hit 6-of-8 from the floor in the first quarter as the Panthers took a 25-18 lead. But LC was just 2-for-29 shooting in the second and third quarters. The Mountaineers took advantage, outscoring the Panthers 37-9 over that span to take control of the game.
The Panthers host Maryville and Covenant next Friday and Saturday in USA South games.
