MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville built a large halftime lead and went on to a 75-61 win over LaGrange on Sunday. It was the second straight loss for the Panthers, now 8-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
The Panthers had two seniors reach career milestones. Lauren Johnson became the fourth Panther to score 1,000 career points. Johnson had 11 points in the game and has 1,007 for her career. Jeris Johnson had five blocks in the game and is now the program's leader with 77 career blocks.
"I thought we played really hard today. I was pleased with our effort and thought we showed a few good things," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Lauren would trade her points tonight for a win but scoring 1,000 points in a career is a huge accomplishment and a huge accomplishment for Jeris and something to be very proud of.
"Both of these young ladies are part of my first recruiting class at LaGrange and I am very happy for them and proud of them. They have worked hard and have meant a lot to me and our basketball program. Congratulations to them both."
Riley Chlupacek and Marilauren Farr each had 16 points for the Panthers. Maryville got a game-high 20 points from Madison Maples.
Maryville (13-8, 9-2 USA South) moved into a tie with Piedmont for the lead in the conference's West Division. The Scots opened up a 38-21 halftime lead. LC, for the second straight game, played better in the second half. The Panthers outscored the Scots 40-37 in the half.
The Panthers host Huntingdon in a USA South game Wednesday at 6 p.m.
