MACON, Ga. - LaGrange wrapped up a perfect 4-0 weekend with a sweep of Wesleyan in a USA South doubleheader Sunday. The Panthers upped their conference record to 10-12 and overall record to 11-19.
The Panthers will be the fifth seed from the West Division for the first round of the USA South Tournament. LC will play at second seeded Salem in a best-of-three series. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday, with the if necessary game Sunday. Salem defeated the Panthers 5-4 and 4-3 on March 5. The winner advances to the conference tournament beginning April 13 at Shuford Park in LaGrange.
Game 1
The Panthers edged the Wolves (6-26, 4-18 USA South) 3-2 in the first game. LC got an RBI single from Sydney Hodorff in the top of the first. Wesleyan came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. McKenzie Brunel scored the tying run off an error in the third inning. In the fourth, Brunel walked with the bases loaded to force in Chelsea Twardoski with the go-ahead run. Twardoski (9-11) pitched a complete game, allowing the two runs, but only one was earned. She gave up four hits, walked one and struck out four.
Game 2
LaGrange never trailed in winning the second game 9-1 in five innings. Jessica Perkins gave up an unearned run in five innings, scattering seven hits. Emily Barrs was 2-for-2, including a double, and drove in three runs. Katelin Richardson and Adrian Little also had two hits. Richardson had a double included in her hits. The Panthers drew nine walks in the game. Barrs, Brunel, and Taylor Tallant all had RBIs on bases loaded walks.
