Visiting Pensacola Christian took a five-set thriller from LaGrange in a non-conference match Friday night in Richter Gym. The Eagles (6-10) took the match by scores of 27-29, 25-23, 25-10, 23-25, and 15-8.
LC (1-11) was led by Jharia Harris's double of 15 kills and 15 digs. Zentrina Choice followed Harris with 11 kills. Morgan Martin recorded a double-double of 28 assists and 11 digs. Shania Espana had 14 digs, Riley Morgan 13, and Bailey Moss 12.
Bethany Gamble led Pensacola Christian with 14 kills, while Victoria Hamilton added 13. Brittany Hunter had a double-double of 11 kills and 17 digs.
The Panthers rallied to take the marathon first set. PCC led 24-21 and was serving for the set. But the Eagles committed three straight attack errors, allowing LC to tie the set 24-24. Down 27-26, the Panthers took three straight points to win the set, the last point coming on a kill by Meredith Orton.
PCC came back to win the next two sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Panthers forced a deciding fifth set with the fourth set win. LC built an early 12-4 lead in the set, but the Eagles came back, eventually tying the set at 17. Choice's kill closed out the set for the Panthers.
Choice opened the scoring in the fifth set. It would be the Panthers only lead, as the Eagles never trailed again after Gamble put down a kill.
The Panthers play at Covenant in a Collegiate Conference of the South tri-match Saturday. LC will play host Covenant at noon, followed by a match against Piedmont at 2 p.m.
