The Panthers dropped both games in their first home tri-match of the season (Sept. 30).
In the first set against Covenant, both teams battled to get points. One of the most exciting moments of the set was when Coach Schulte saw an opportunity for a big play and called out, "Go for it," when Olivia Dusterdieck was at the net. She heeded his advice and crushed a spike over the net to bring the score within 5. Sadly, Covenant pulled out the first set, winning 25-14. The second game was neck and neck in the first five points. The Scots started to pull away but LC said not so fast, and scored three in a row to tie it at eight points each. The two teams traded points until the score was 17-17. The Panthers continued to fight but Covenant bested LC 25-19. The third set continued to be a hard fought game for the Panthers, but Covenant was able to win 25-15.
In the first set of the second match, the Panthers came out swinging. Both teams were trading points until Piedmont slowly pulled away to a 9-5 lead. LC continued to fight, even leading 12-11, but Piedmont was able to pull out a 25-21 close win in the first set. The second set was just as close as the first one with both teams trading points. PU was able to do enough to escape with a 25-11 victory. Although they were down 2-0, the Panthers continued to battle in the third set. The Lions were too much to handle for LC and ended up winning 25-9.
The team travels to Huntingdon in their next match on Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.
