Volleyball: Panthers sweep Agnes Scott for second CCS win

Volleyball: Panthers sweep Agnes Scott for second CCS win

LaGrange swept Agnes Scott to gain a split of its Collegiate Conference of the South tri-match Friday in the Richter Gymnasium. The Panthers are now 2-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

The Panthers beat the Scotties (0-18, 0-8 CCS) 25-12, 25-23, and 25-22. Senior Jhaira Harris had a career-high 18 kills and posted a .452 attack percentage. Morgan Martin had 19 assists and eight service aces. Shania Espada had a team-high 11 digs.

LC never trailed in cruising to the first set win. The Panthers broke a 9-9 tie off a Martin service ace. It started a 13-2 run that put the set out of reach. Rhaya Howell's service ace and a kill by Olivia Dusterdieck finished the set.

The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes. Harris put down seven kills in the set and had a .500 attack percentage. Trailing 17-13, the Panthers put together a 5-0 run to go up 18-17. The Scotties came back to lead 23-22. Harris tied the set for the last time with a kill, and back-to-back hitting errors closed out the set for LC.

In the final set, Agnes Scott stayed within striking distance but the Panthers never trailed. LC's biggest lead was five, 8-3, in the early going. The Scotties tied the set at 21, but the Panthers answered with three straight points, the last on Martin's final service ace of the match. Harris put down her 18th kill to close out the set and the match for LC.

Maryville (11-8, 5-3 CSS) topped LC 3-0 in the day's first match. The Scots won 25-10, 25-13, and 26-24. Harris and Zentrina Choice each had seven kills for the Panthers.

The Panthers play at Belhaven on Oct. 12 in a CCS match.
