JACKSON, Miss. - LaGrange roared back to beat Belhaven 3-2 in a Collegiate Conference of the South match Wednesday. The Panthers improved to 3-6 in the CSS and 3-15 overall.
Belhaven (5-12, 3-4 CCS) took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-20. The Panthers came back to tie the match with identical 25-22 wins in the third and fourth sets. LC closed out the comeback by taking the deciding set 15-10.
Freshman Zentrina Choice had a match and season high 13 kills to lead LC. She finished with a .571 attack percentage. Jharia Harris followed with 11 kills and tied for team honors with three service aces. Alexis Childers had 30 assists, while Shania Espada added 18 digs.
LC started its comeback in the third set. The Panthers wiped out an early 7-2 deficit. They went on a 6-0 run to grab a 14-11 lead and never trailed again.
The Panthers tied the match 2-2 with the fourth set win. The Blazers led 20-16 before kills by Choice and Harris sandwiched around two attack errors tied the set at 20. Rhaya Harwell's service ace took the set for LC.
The Panthers continued their momentum into the deciding fifth set. LC never trailed and closed out the match on a Blazers' attack error.
The Panthers host Berea and Wesleyan in a CCS tri-match Saturday beginning at noon.
