LAGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange (10-16, 4-4 CCS) softball caps the home season with a flourish as they host Agnes Scott (9-19, 3-5 CCS) and Piedmont (21-10, 8-2 CCS) on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16, respectively, with the latter date serving as Senior Day. First pitch of both doubleheaders is slated for 12 p.m. with the back half set for approximately 2 p.m.
The Panthers come in having won three of their last four with a sweep Berea (4/8) by scores of 11-0 and 19-1 in a pair of five inning outings and a split against Huntingdon (4/11). They would deliver a five-inning, 10-2 victory against the Hawks before falling 6-2 in the nightcap.
Agnes Scott enters with a five-game winning streak that includes victories over Maryville (12-7 on 4/1), Berea (10-2 and 12-0 on 4/2) and Wesleyan (10-3 and 11-1 on 4/5). Piedmont, meanwhile, had their 10-game win streak snapped by Belhaven (4-0 and 2-1 on 4/6) and No. 4 Berry (6-0 and 2-0 on 4/11).
SERIES HISTORY
The Panthers have faced Agnes Scott the second most times in program history, with their 69 games and 61-8 record trailing just the 76 meetings against Huntingdon. The series dates back to 2003 and saw LaGrange win an incredible 41 in a row over the first nine years to 2012. The Scotties picked up their first win by an 8-0 score that same season but would surrender another 12 straight from 2013-17. Most recently, however, ASC has won four of the last five, including 4-2 and 8-2 decisions on April 23, 2022.
Against Piedmont LaGrange trails 31-20 since they kicked off the series with a five-game winning streak in 2003. The Lions would claim seven in a row from 2011-14, however, and have won eight of the last nine since 2017, a stretch including six in a row since 2019. Most recently they swept a doubleheader, 9-0 and 8-1, on April 19, 2022.
