LAGRANGE, Ga. – No. 6 Seed LaGrange (13-21, 7-9 CCS) softball heads to Montgomery, Alabama to take on No. 3 Seed Maryville (24-13, 12-4 CCS) in the inaugural Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tournament on Thursday, April 27. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on the campus of Huntingdon, which is hosting a four-game pod.
The Panthers come into the tournament having lost four of their last six, including narrow 4-2 and 5-4 defeats at Maryville (4/18), but won their last two. Those two came at Wesleyan (4/21) with wins at the opposite ends of the spectrum – 10-0, five-inning win and a slim 5-4 decision.
MU enters riding a six-game win streak and 12 of their last 14, a stretch dating back to March 25. In their current run, the Scots opened with the two wins over LC before sweeping Centre (8-1 and 3-2 on 4/20) and Piedmont (5-3 and 6-4 on 4/22).
SERIES HISTORY
The Panthers trail the all-time series against the Scots 28-24 in the 52 meetings since 2003. LaGrange won five in a row from 2005-06, notching decisions of 6-1, 4-1, 1-0, 11-2 and 2-1 and Maryville matched with their five-game streak from 2018-21. That would be part of nine wins in the last 10, including 10-1 and 10-2 on April 2, 2022 and the 4-2 and 5-4 decisions in Maryville, Tennessee on April 18.
