DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont ended LaGrange's season with a 79-57 win in the USA South Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night in the Cave Arena. The Panthers finished the season 15-10, including a 10-5 conference mark.
With their its third win of the season against LC, Piedmont (21-5) advances to the semifinals Friday against Southern Virginia. The Lady Lions got a game-high 33 points from Livia Skinner.
It was the final game for Panther seniors Jada Brown, Megan English, Morgan Grant, and Jalaya Lewis. Lewis had six points and four assists. Grant had five points and five rebounds. English did not play due to an injury.
Breonna Glover had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Brown had 11 points off the bench, while Gracie Brunel added 10 points.
"It was a tough way to end the season after having a great run at the end," Coach Jasen Jonus said. We came out from the beginning and just couldn't find a rhythm offensively. They sped us up and forced a lot of turnovers that led to easy baskets for them. I kept saying it all year, either you are winning or you are learning and we have to learn from this game leading into next year.
"I am so proud of our seniors and the way they led our group. Megan, Morgan, Jalaya, and Jada did an amazing job and set the stage for the future. Megan unfortunately hurt her ankle two days before the game and that was a tough for us not having her presence out there. I hope our returners for next year stay hungry and see what we need to get better at to be successful."
