BEREA, Ky. - LaGrange had a block party in routing Berea 83-57 in a USA South game Saturday. The Panthers (13-11, 8-7 USA South) snapped a four-game losing streak in beating the Mountaineers (7-16, 3-12 USA South) for the second time this season.
LC had 13 blocked shots in the game, eclipsing the program's NCAA era record of 12 set against Berry on Dec. 6, 2006. Jalen McCallum had six blocks, the first Panther to have as many as six in a game since Patrick Dugger did it against Maryville on Feb. 16, 2014.
Alex Bonner led four Panthers in double figures with a game-high 15 points. McCallum finished the game with 14 points, hitting 6-of-8 from the floor. Travis Thompson had his team leading fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Jamison McCray added 11 points.
The Panthers broke open a tight game with a 19-7 run over the final six minutes of the first half to lead 45-31. They led by as many as 27 points in the second half. The 26-point margin of victory was the largest of the season for LC. Berea was held to 28.8 percent shooting in the game, the lowest by an opponent this season. The Mountaineers shot 22.2 percent in the second half, making just 8-of-36 shots. The 57 points was also the fewest by an opponent.
The Panthers travel to Maryville on Sunday to close out the regular season.
