Samuel Moss' 17 point game was not enough to overcome Shorter University's high-scoring offense. Shorter won 90-74.
First half
Shorter began the game hitting their shots. In the first four minutes, the Hawks went up 11-3. Samuel Moss started making baskets, scoring a quick seven points to bring it to 13-10. Over the next few minutes, both teams traded punches and Shorter went up 21-14. The best play of the half happened when Cam Lyons hit a streaking Trenton Dillard with a great pass for Dillard to finish the play with an under the basket layup. Following this play, the Panthers rebounded a missed Hawks three pointer and Samuel Moss hit a wide-open three to bring their lead to just two. On the next Panther possession, Syncere Harris hit a three of his own for LC to take the 22-21 lead with less than 10 minutes left. The Panthers and Hawks exchanged points the rest of the way, Shorter led 42-40 at the half. The Panthers showed great poise after going down to start the game. LC was able to close the gap and keep the game close throughout the half. Samuel Moss led LC in scoring with 10 points while shooting 57% from field goals and 66% beyond the arc. As a team, the Panthers shot 50% from three and 52% in the field.
Second half
The Hawks began the second half by going on a 9-2 run which forced a LC timeout with 16 minutes remaining in the game. The best Panther play of the half happened after the timeout when Kameron McCall found Gabe Corfied behind the arc for Corfied to knock down a three. This play brought the Hawks lead to 54-49 with 13 minutes left. Over the next three minutes, Shorter went on a run to go up 69-52 with 10 remaining. At this point, the Panthers shots stopped falling and the Hawks were able to extend their lead. Shorter held on to win 90-74.
Key Panther performances
Samuel Moss scored a team-high 17 points for LC. Moss absolutely exploded in the last five minutes but it was not enough to get the Panther win.
Brodie Scott led the Panthers in second half points (9). He also led LC in rebounds with seven.
