BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sharp shooting Birmingham-Southern downed LaGrange 98-71 in a non-conference game Sunday. The Panthers, playing for the first time since Dec. 1, slipped to 4-5 on the season, while Birmingham-Southern improved to 3-4.
Bershard Edwards led LC with 14 points. Kyle Brown added 13, all coming in the second half. Kyle Smith had 10 points off the bench. Birmingham-Southern got a game high 19 points from Cameron Glover.
Birmingham-Southern's 3-point shooting was the difference in the game. BSC hit 18 treys in the game, outscoring LC 54-24 from beyond the arc. The Panthers were held to 36.4% shooting in the game.
The host Panthers jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first four minutes of the game. LC drew within one, 18-17, when Cooper Dolhancyk hit a 3-pointer off an assist from Brown with 11:20 left in the first half.
Birmingham-Southern went on a 14-0 run over the next four minutes to take control of the game. Tayshon Pendleton's trey broke the Panthers' scoring drought to make it 32-20. BSC took a 48-32 lead at halftime, making 11-of-17 3s in the half.
In the second half, BSC continued to build its lead. The Panthers never got closer than 15 points in the half.
The Panthers play at Division I Jacksonville State on Monday in an exhibition game. LC returns to Mariotti Gym on Wednesday to take on USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan in a non-conference game. Tipoff is 12 p.m. It will be LaGrange Academy Day.
