The Panthers fell to Berea 85-67 in the in-conference home opener (Jan. 12). Cam Lyons scored a team-high 22 points.
First half details
The game against Berea started off very competitive. Each team was trading points and the Mariotti crowd were on their feet cheering. With 11 minutes remaining in the half, Jace Herrell found an open Shaun Nichols for the freshman guard to knock down a three. Nichols has had some big games in the past few weeks, and tonight he looked more comfortable taking shots. The game stayed close, but Berea was able to extend their small lead to nine after a couple of LC shots did not fall. Berea led 35-26 at the break.
Second half details
Berea began the second half off fast. Within five minutes of the second quarter, Berea had extended their lead to 48-32. Despite being down 16, LC continued to do anything they could to get back into the game. The Panthers were able to dig themselves out of the 16-point deficit and bring the game to 50-44, but Berea was able to respond again. It seemed like each time LC closed the gap, Berea had the answers to grab the big lead. LC continued to fight but dropped the game 85-67.
