MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange picked up a tough USA South road win Tuesday night, edging Huntingdon 78-76 in Rowland Arena. The Panthers are now 11-10 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The Hawks slipped to 6-13 and 0-8 in the USA South.
The Panthers' big three of Zac Hill, Kyle Brown, and Bershard Edwards combined for 59 points. Hill had a game-high 21 points, followed by Brown with 20 and Edwards with 18. Gabe Cofield had 12 points, all coming on 3s. Camerin Lyons did not score but dished out a career high nine assists.
Huntingdon led 38-35 at halftime. The Panthers scored the first nine points of the second half. Cofield's trey started a 16-6 run by the Panthers over a five-minute span. Edwards' layup midway through the second half gave LC a 63-49 lead.
The Panthers had a 13-point lead, 72-59, with 5:43 showing as Edwards scored after getting an offensive board. It was an eight-point game, 77-69, when Brown scored inside with 2:10 left. From there the Panthers' only point came on a Cooper Dohancyk free throw. LC was only 8-of-21 at the free throw line in the game. The Hawks had one last chance, but Willie Taylor's potential game-winning 3-pointer was off the mark.
LC forced 15 turnovers while committing only six in the game. The Panthers scored 15 points off the turnovers.
The Panthers play at No. 11 Maryville on Saturday and at Berea on Sunday in USA South games.
