COLUMBUS, Mississippi—The LaGrange College Men's Basketball Team won in a close contest at Mississippi University for Women Sunday afternoon, 70-67. The win puts LC at 4-2 and gets the team back-to-back wins for the second time this season.
The Panthers held steady through the first 10 minutes of play, as a Bershard Edwards' basket put LC up 19-13. LaGrange gave up the lead but kept up the pace, with another Edwards basket with 27 seconds left putting the Panthers up 37-32 heading into the break.
The second half was another half to remember, as the lead was never greater than five for either squad. The lead changed hands 11 times in the second half alone, with six ties.
With 5:41 left in the game, an Edwards layup put the Panthers up 60-59 and LC never lost the lead. Down three, MUW had the ball with four seconds left and had a chance to extend the game to overtime, but the three pointer was missed and the rebound was claimed by Zac Hill to give the Panthers a three-point win, their second win by three or less.
Hill led the Panthers in points, scoring 18 and going 8-10 from the inside the arc, while also grabbing three rebounds.
LC was led in rebounds by Edwards, who grabbed six rebounds while also scoring 14 points. The rest of starting lineup contributed well: Camerin Lyons had 15 points and three rebounds, and Brodie Scott dropped 11 points and three rebounds as well. The bench scoring was led by Kyle Smith, who scored seven in 22 minutes.
LC will stay on the road and travel to Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday before coming back home to play Emory on December 7at Mariotti Gymnasium.
