LAGRANGE, Ga. – With one game remaining, LaGrange (15-9, 7-4 CCS) men's basketball looks to lock up the No. 2 seed in the inaugural Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tournament when they travel to Covenant (8-15, 4-6 CCS) on Wednesday, February 15. Tip-off is slated for approximately 7 p.m. following the women's contest.
The Panthers come in having dropped two straight for the first time all season, falling to Berea (2/10) by an 80-73 score and Belhaven 71-70 in the final seconds the following day. They come into the regular season finale tied with the latter, and having lost the season series, would need to win and have the Blazers fall in their finale with Berea. A win and losses by Maryville to Berea and Piedmont would also keep alive the possibility of a tie for the top spot.
The Scots come in having lost three of their last four, falling 103-99 in triple overtime at Maryville (2/7) and 91-74 at Piedmont (2/10). Prior to that stretch they had won three in a row with wins over Huntingdon (77-58 on 1/20), Belhaven (65-58 on 1/21) and BC (87-78 in OT on 1/25).
ALL-TIME SERIES
In a series that dates back to November 5, 1994, LaGrange trails the Scots 18-15. They would lose that one, 85-57, as part of a 1-5 start to the series before eventually winning a matchup-long five straight from February 22, 2014 through February 12, 2016. Most recently the Panthers won three in a row by a combined 13 points from February 4, 2021 through January 21, 2022 before CC managed an 80-70 decision on February 5, 2022 and a 74-61 decision in Mariotti on January 17.
