Maryville's explosive late-game performance pushed the visiting Scots past the Panthers. LC dropped the game 99-84.
First half details
Both teams today begin the game slow on the offensive side of the ball. At the first media time-out, LC was up 6-4, with four of the Panther points coming from free throws. Coming out of the break, both teams brought in three new players, which sparked some better offensive play. With 12 minutes remaining in the first half, LC led 16-15. The game stayed close throughout the rest of the half with each team trading points. Panther forward Parker Gonzalez had the LC bench on their feet when the big man grabbed a contested rebound under the rim and scored two points through two defenders. Only a few minutes later, Kameron McCall took his turn hyping up his fellow teammates when he made a fantastic move past his defender and made an acrobatic layup over the help-defender. At half, LC led 46-43.
Samuel Moss scored a team-high nine points, shooting 75% from the field. As a team, the Panthers shot 58% from the field and 38% from three.
Second half details
The second half continued to be a very competitive game. Both teams were fighting for each point and rebound. At the first media break, LC led 56-51. Over the next few minutes, the Panthers quickly fell into foul trouble which allowed the Scots to take a 59-56 lead and force a LC time-out. Samuel Moss made another huge Panther block in tonight's game which had the whole crowd on their feet. Between his dunking ability and to get powerful blocks, the Georgia native guard is anything but small. Over the next few minutes, LC shots began to struggle to fall. With seven minutes remaining, the Panthers trailed 77-65. Maryville's shots continued to fall the rest of the way. The Scots were able to hold on to win 99-84.
