LaGrange Looks To Regain First Place In CCS With Bout With Piedmont

By Joshua J. Darling, Sports Information Director

LAGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange (14-7, 6-2 CCS) men's basketball looks to regain their footing in the chase for the inaugural Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) championship as they host Piedmont (11-10, 4-4 CCS) on Tuesday, February 7. Game time is set for approximately 7 p.m. in historic Mariotti Gym following the women's contest.

The Panthers have won three of their last four, knocking off Covenant (74-61 on 1/17), Piedmont (80-77 on 1/25) and Huntingdon (80-74 on 1/31) before dropping a heartbreaking 69-64 decision to Maryville (2/3) in a battle for first place.

PC also comes in having won three of four, notching a 98-73 victory over Huntingdon (1/21) before their narrow three-point loss to LaGrange. Since then they have decimated Covenant (80-54 on 1/28) and Bob Jones (96-67 on 1/31).

ALL-TIME SERIES

LaGrange leads the most prevalent series in its history by a hefty 95-44 margin over Piedmont, one that dates back to the 1957-58 season. A large chunk of that came from 15 straight wins dating from 1962-69 and another 13 from 1971-77. They would add another 13-game stretch from 1982-88 to account for 41 of those 94 victories. Most recently the Panthers have taken the last three, 66-62 and 74-71 in overtime in 2022 and 80-77 in Demorest on January 25 of this year.
