The men's basketball team travels to Atlanta for the Emory Holiday Classic hosted by Emory University. The Panthers (4-7) take on Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Thursday. Game time is 2 p.m. for both games.
Panthers' Update
LC last played on Dec. 17 in a 90-83 loss at Division II West Georgia. Senior Kyle Brown had a game-high 24 points for the Panthers. Junior Zac Hill added a career-high 19 points. Brown averages team-bests of 18.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with 45 assists. Brown is fifth in the USA South in scoring, 10th in rebounding, and second in assists. Senior Bershard Edwards averages 14.0 points per game. Edwards leads the team with 19 3-pointers. He is second on the team and fourth in the conference with 39 assists.
The tournament wraps up the Panthers' non-conference schedule. LC opens its USA South schedule at Piedmont on Jan. 8.
Birmingham-Southern Update
LC is playing its Panthers counterpart for the second time this season. BSC won the first meeting 98-71 in Birmingham on Dec. 12. BSC enters the tournament with a 5-6 record. In a 94-91 win over Mississippi University for Women on Dec. 19, the Panthers rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit for their third straight win. Senior Christian Stewart had a game-high double-double of 37 points and 11 rebounds. Stewart leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Wisconsin-Whitewater Update
The Panthers are playing Wisconsin-Whitewater for the first time. The Warhawks are 8-3 entering Wednesday's game against tournament host Emory. Wisconsin-Whitewater plays in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference which has three teams in the top 10 of the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Warhawks defeated Augustana 82-65 on Dec. 22. Derek Gray had a game-high 22 points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range. He leads the team with a 17.1 points per game average and is shooting 41.2% on 3-point attempts. Wisconsin-Whitewater won NCAA Division III national championships in 2012 and 2014.
