The opportunities created by the Panthers to assist their teammates pushed LaGrange College past Truett McConnell University in their Sunday scrimmage. The key to the 3-2 LC victory this weekend was the chemistry that was displayed in the match.
The Panthers started the game off fast with a goal by Lucas Duke assisted by Mathew Webb after a fast break left them two on one against the Truett-McConnell goalkeeper. The second goal of the scrimmage came in the 20th minute when Dylan Bailey was assisted by Austin Anderson in front of the net to put the Panthers up 2-0 in the first half. The Panthers continued to score fast in the second half when Enrique Hernandez found Mathew Webb for a shot on target, to put LaGrange College up 3-0.
Truett-McConnell fought to the very end, scoring a goal from a header in the 80th minute to cut the lead to 3-1. The second goal for the Bears was on a cross that ricocheted off of an LC defender as time expired in the 89th minute.
As discussed in the pregame interview, Coach Dickson rotated through his roster to find success with a handful of players. Each goal came off a Panther pass which five different players contributed to. The key player in today's scrimmage was sophomore Mathew Webb who accounted for one assist and one goal on the day.
The next men's soccer game is an away scrimmage against Sewanee: The University of the South on Aug. 26, at 4:30 p.m.
