RALEIGH, N.C. - LaGrange pounded out 26 hits in route to a sweep of William Peace in a USA South doubleheader Monday. The Panthers won the first game 11-0 in five innings and held on for an 8-6 win in the second game.
The Panthers had 13 hits in each game in raising their team batting average to .384. Alison Jiles went 5-for-7 with four RBIs Monday and is 10-for-15 in the last four games. Jiles leads the team with a .531 batting average.
Dani Gravett (3-0) pitched a two-hitter in the first game. She walked three and struck out two.
The Panthers gave Gravett all the run support she would need with a 10-run first inning. It was the most runs in an inning by the Panthers since scoring 14 against Wesleyan in 2012.
The Panthers had 10 hits in the inning. Emily Barrs had two hits and three RBIs in the frame. Olivia Wolfe had a two-run double and Adrienne Little drove in two runs with a triple. Danielle Newbern also had two RBIs with a single.
Little led off the fourth inning with her first home run of the season to close out the scoring.
Jiles' first home run of the season gave the Panthers a quick 1-0 lead in the second game. In the fourth inning, the Panthers loaded the bases and Jiles cleared them with a double to make it 4-0.
Wolfe added an RBI single in the fifth to up the lead to 5-0. The Panthers closed out their scoring in the seventh with three runs to lead 8-0.
Wolfe and Little had run-scoring doubles in the inning. Christy Flick drove in the final run with a base hit to score Little.
On the mound, Wolfe (4-1) had cruised through the first six innings, holding the Pacers to five hits. In the seventh, the Pacers erupted for six runs to cut the Panthers lead to two, 8-6. Shay Poteat's three-run home run was the big blow in the inning. But Wolfe retired Morgan Bryant to end the game.
The Panthers host Mary Baldwin and Ferrum in USA South doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
