Jennifer Claybrook got her 300th career win and got started on the next 100 as LaGrange swept a USA South doubleheader from visiting Covenant on Saturday.
Olivia Wolfe threw a complete game three-hitter in the first game as the Panthers (12-6, 7-5 USA South) won 2-0 to get Claybrook her milestone win. In the second game, Dani Gravett matched Wolfe with a three-hitter of her own and added a home run at the plate in winning 4-0.
The Panthers got single runs in the second and third innings to go up 2-0 and Wolfe made them stand up. Lindsey Hogan's walk with the bases loaded forced in the first run, then in the third pinch runner Carolyn Harkness stole third and came home when the throw went into left field.
Wolfe worked out of jams in the sixth and seventh innings. Covenant (7-7, 2-6 USA South) had runners on second and third in both innings with one out but Wolfe escaped each time to preserve the shutout and the win.
The senior improved to 6-4 with her seventh complete game of the season and first shutout. She walked three and had a season-high nine strikeouts.
The Panthers had three home runs, including's Gravett's third of the season in the second game. Newbern led off the third with her team-leading fourth of the season for a 2-0 lead. Gravett hit hers in the fourth with two out. Emily Barrs closed out the scoring with her third of the season in the fifth for the 4-0 final margin.
Barrs finished the game 2-for-2, while Alison Jiles added two more hits. Wolfe had an RBI single in the second inning.
The Panthers play at Birmingham-Southern in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.
