DEMOREST, Ga. - LaGrange bounced back from a tough first game loss to gain a split of a USA South doubleheader with Piedmont on Wednesday.
The host Lady Lions (5-5, 4-4 USA South) pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to win the first game 3-2. The Panthers (10-6, 5-5 USA South) bounced backed to take the second game 11-6.
The Panthers grabbed a 4-0 lead after an inning of the second game. Adrienne Little drove in the first two runs with a double. Olivia Wolfe capped the inning with a two-run home run, her third of the season.
The Panthers broke the game open in the fourth. Sending 11 batters to the plate, the Panthers scored seven runs in the inning to build an 11-0 lead.
Wolfe and Christy Flick both had two-run singles in the inning. Danielle Newbern and Jessica Smith had run-scoring hits, while Alison Jiles forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
Piedmont came back with five runs in the fifth and another in the seventh for the 11-6 final. Wolfe got the win, pitching into the fifth before Kara Patterson came on and finished the game.
The Panthers had 18 hits in the game. Flick ended up with three, while six others all had two hits.
In the first game, Emily Barrs drove in a run in the first inning and Flick another in the sixth to account for the Panthers' scoring. Danielle Newbern had three hits, while Barrs, Flick and Little each had two.
The Panthers host Covenant in a USA South doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
