ATLANTA, Ga. - The LaGrange softball team had its fantastic 2015 season come to an end Saturday at the NCAA Division III Atlanta Regional on the campus of Emory University. Berry (33-7) used a six-run sixth inning to break a tie and go on to down the Panthers 10-2.
The Panthers finished with a 25-16 record and won the USA South Tournament championship for the first time. They were making their fourth NCAA appearance.
The game also marked the last one for five Panther seniors: Jordan Conner, Christy Flick, Lindsey Hogan, Danielle Newbern, and Olivia Wolfe.
The Panthers trailed 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third inning. They loaded the bases with one out on three straight hits by Hogan, Kalin Oglesby and Dani Gravett. Newbern walked to force in Hogan to make it 2-1. Oglesby came home with the tying run when Wolfe flew out to deep left field.
The game remained tied until the sixth. Berry broke the game open with five runs off Wolfe (12-11) and another off reliever Emily Cauldwell. The Vikings closed out the scoring with two runs in the seventh off reliever Kara Patterson.
The Panthers had five hits in the game. Oglesby had two of the hits and was named to the NCAA Atlanta Regional All-Tournament team.
