MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alison Jiles' home run in the seventh inning lifted LaGrange to a come-from-behind 4-3 win and a sweep of Huntingdon in a USA South doubleheader Thursday.
Senior Olivia Wolfe pitched a complete game three-hitter as the Panthers blanked the Hawks5-0 in the first game. The sweep extended the Panthers' win streak to six games, as they improved to 18-10 overall and are tied with Ferrum for third place in the conference with a 13-7 record.
Huntingdon (16-13, 11-8 USA South) led 3-0 after five innings off Dani Gravett (7-1). Gravett went the distance; giving up the three runs, only two earned, on six hits. She walked two and struck out five.
The Panthers tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. They did it without benefit of a hit in the inning, taking advantage of two errors, a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Jiles came up in the seventh with one out. She belted Lindsey Selph's (4-4) pitch over the fence in left center to put the Panthers up 4-3. The home run was Jiles' third of the season.
Gravett pitched around a one-out single in the bottom of the inning to close out the game.
In the first game, Wolfe improved her season record to 9-7 with her third straight shutout and fourth of the season. She now has a 19 inning scoreless streak going. Wolfe struck out a season-high 10 batters and walked three.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first, as Gravett and Kalin Oglesby scored on wild pitches. They added to their lead in the third on a two-run double by Emily Barrs to go up 4-0. In the fourth, Lindsey Hogan scored on Gravett's infield hit for the 5-0 final.
The Panthers play USA South doubleheaders at Methodist on Saturday and N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday.
