FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - LaGrange bounced back to split a USA South doubleheader with Methodist at Price Field on Saturday.
The Panthers (19-11, 14-8 USA South) took the second game 5-4 after having their six-game winning streak end with a 2-1 loss to the Monarchs (18-18, 12-10 USA South) in the first game.
The Panthers broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the third inning. Danielle Newbern broke the tie with a two-run double, followed by an RBI single from Emily Barrs. Brooke Turner's double drove in Barrs for a 5-1 lead.
Olivia Wolfe relieved Kara Patterson in the seventh with the tying run on third and one out. She got the final two outs to pick up her first save of the season. Dani Gravett (8-1) got the win, allowing four runs, three of those earned, in three innings.
Newbern, Gravett and Kalin Oglesby had six of the Panthers' eight hits.
Wolfe (9-8) went six innings in the first game to take the loss. She allowed two runs, only one earned, while walking three and striking out nine. She had her 20-inning shutout streak end in the second inning.
Alison Jiles' RBI double in the first inning accounted for the Panthers' run. Jiles, Gravett and Oglesby had two hits each.
