ATLANTA, Ga. - Heather Miller scored a game-high 21 points as LaGrange improved to 8-0 with a 88-61 win at Spelman on Wednesday night. The Panthers upped their GSAC mark to 3-0. Spelman dropped to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Miller was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor, including two 3-point attempts in the game. She was also 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
Miller was one of four players in double figures for the Panthers. Katie Covington had 15 ponts, Elizabeth Williams 12 and Caroline Brashier 11.
Spelman was led by Shanda Kennedy's 18 points. Shereva Lewis added 14 points and Jessica Reagans 13.
The Jaguars shot 53.3 percent in the first half. They hit their first five shots in the game to take an early 10-4 lead.
The Panthers ran off nine straight points to take a 13-10 lead. Miller finished the run with a layup.
Spelman retook the lead, 17-14, after a 3-pointer from Reagans with 13:37 left in the half. The Jaguars held the lead for the next seven minutes.
Reagans' jumper tied the game for the last time at 31 with 4:50 remaining. Elizabeth Williams' basket put the Panthers ahead to stay, 33-31.
Williams' basket started a 10-0 run by the Panthers. Miller and Alex Wilson finished the run with back-to-back 3-pointers for a 41-31 lead. The Panthers led 49-38 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers continued to build on their lead. Stefanie Schuck's two free throws put the Panthers up 72-51 with 8:52 left in the game. The 88-61 final score matched the Panthers' largest lead of the game.
The Panthers held Spelman to 25 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. The Panthers shot a season-best 46.2 percent in the game.
The Panthers were 34-of-41 at the free throw line in the game. They made 20-of-22 in the second half. Spelman was 9-of-17 at the line.
The Panthers host Agnes Scott in a GSAC game Friday at 6 p.m. Friday's game will be a "Pink Zone" event which is an initiative through the NCAA for breast cancer awareness and fundraising. Free tee-shirts will be given to the first 400 people at the game.
