The Panthers play their first in-conference game against Covenant at Panther Field this Saturday (Sept. 16) at 4 p.m.
Matchup-
The last time LC saw Covenant was when the Panthers lost 2-1 in the 2022 CCS Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. Covenant is currently 0-1-3 on the season, which makes them a dangerous team looking to get their first win. The team both Covenant and LC have played so far this year is Birmingham-Southern. Covenant tied them 2-2, while the Panthers dropped the game 2-1 after BSC scored a last-minute goal to win. The Panthers are 2-1-2 and looking to start in-conference play with a big win.
What to watch for-
One thing to watch for is how quickly the Panthers offense can start. In the past two games, all of the scoring has happened in the final minutes of the first half or in the second. The Panthers have tried to create opportunities in the early minutes but nothing has fallen their way. Another thing to pay attention to is how the defense plays at the end of the match. Birmingham-Southern's game winning goal happened in the 87th minute, Point's only goal came in the 87th minute and Meredith scored in the 73rd to tie the game against the Panthers. It will be interesting to see how the Panthers prevent these late-game goals going forward.
