Faulkner's late goal forced a 2-2 tie
In the first half of the game today, both teams took very few shots and the ball stayed in the middle of the field. This was due to teams' defenses preventing anything getting past them. In the 35th minute, it looked like Faunker was going to create a good opportunity to put a wide open shot on goal. That was until senior Christina Shanahan stopped the would be one on one with the Panther goalkeeper with a great slide tackle on the fast advancing Faulkner forward. The half ended with a 0-0 tie.
The second half continued to be scoreless until Kirsten Captino found Charlee Hunt in front of the net for Hunt to hit a goal above the keeper's head. The Panthers led 1-0 in the 54th minute. Faulkner responded with a goal only two minutes later to tie the game up at 1-1. After neither team could find the net, Kaia King made a great move and scored a goal to put the Panthers up 2-1 in the 67th. In the 75th minute, Cassidy Abbott made a fantastic save to stop Faulkner from tying up the game. In the 83rd minute, Abbott made the quick decision to come out of the goal and stop the attack. This play stopped another one on one shot on the goalkeeper. Faulkner then hit a goal in the 87th minute to tie it at 2-2. 2-2 was the final score.
The Panthers begin CCS tournament play this Saturday (Oct. 28) at Piedmont.
