Hendrix took a hard fought 14-9 win over LaGrange on Sunday in Callaway Stadium. The loss left the Panthers 1-2, while the Warriors evened their record at 2-2.
"We fought for all four quarters today, but just struggled in the clearing game which forced us to play more and more defense," said Coach Brandon Sewell. "The effort was there, but there's certainly some things we need to clean up in practice if we want to turn these hard fought games into wins."
Caleb Gilmore had four goals for the Panthers. Robert Hunt had two goals and three assists. Ben Bryan, Tareyon Delgado, and Isaac Fuller all had a goal each. Delgado's was his team-leading eighth goal. Fuller, Gilmore, and Hunt now have five each. Hunt leads the team with five assists.
Issac Bohrer recorded 20 saves in goal. He faced 34 shots on goal. Hendrix outshot the Panthers 56-28 in the game.
Hunt opened the scoring with an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game. Hendrix tied the game a minute later, but Bryan's goal allowed LC to retake the lead, 2-1. The Warriors ran off four straight goals to end the period with a 5-2 lead. Spencer Dorfneilsen started the run with the first of his game-leading five goals.
Trailing 8-4 in the second period, the Panthers scored three of the final four goals to close out the half. Hunt got his second goal, then assisted on two goals by Gilmore to pull LC within two, 9-7 at the break.
Hendrix held LC to two second half goals. Bohrer had 14 of his saves in the second half. The Warriors finished the game with a 26-9 face-off advantage.
