Message from Assistant Director of Sports Information Trevor Wenners: Interested in getting to know the ins and outs of what make your favorite LaGrange College student-athletes tick? Starting on July 31, we will be unveiling our Meet-Your-Panther series. Our dedicated and loyal fans will be able to get an up-close look at the personalities and dreams of our student-athletes.
Tareyon Delgado was not your typical rookie.
The 6-foot-1 midfielder on the LaGrange College men's lacrosse team poured in four goals and added an assist during the Panthers' first-ever win against Centenary, 18-11, on Feb 14 at Callaway Stadium. During a 23-2 triumph over visiting Johnson & Wales University (Denver) on March 5, the Evans, Georgia, native finished with career highs of six goals and seven points.

The season may have been cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Delgado, along with his teammates, proved to fans that there are multiple reasons to be optimistic when it comes to the future of the program.
"Winning two games as a first-year team is amazing," said Delgado. "My teammates and I laid the groundwork for a program that is going to be a title contender for years to come."
Delgado led the Panthers in goals (19) and was tied for first with 23 points. He recorded an impressive shots-on-goal percentage (80.0), while picking up 23 ground balls and causing six turnovers.
Delgado finished in a tie for sixth in the USA South in goals and a tie for 15th in points.
"Tareyon really stood out this past year," said LaGrange men's lacrosse head coach Brandon Sewell. "From the very first game, he showed his ability to command and lead the offense. What makes Tareyon special is that he is extremely versatile, which makes him difficult to contain. With continued hard work and experience, we expect him to be one of the best midfielders in this conference."
Delgado took some time to speak about the importance of hard work and the impact of coaching on student-athletes in a Q&A segment.
Q: Could you talk about coach Sewell's dedication to the sport of lacrosse and commitment to excellence?
A: Coach Sewell is one of the best coaches that I have ever had the opportunity to play for. I would not be in the position that I am right now without him. He pushes us to be better and never settles for anything less than 100-percent effort. He was a player at one time, just like me, so he knows what it is like to be in my position.

Q: As your collegiate career moves forward, how are you planning on improving?
A: This offseason my biggest focus has been on getting bigger and faster. We proved in our first year that we could hold our own against anyone. One of the things holding us back was that we were small, so I do not want that to be the case in the future.
Q: Who is the most underrated player on the team?
A: Jhalil Daniels is the most underrated player on the team. At his position, he does a great amount of work for us that does not show up on the scoreboard or stat sheet. Jhalil makes me push myself in practice. We have the same killer instinct and that mentality gives us a big drive.
Q: Who is your best all-around teammate?
A: Nathaniel Moore is the best teammate. I would not have been able to do what I did on the offensive side without Nathaniel. He is a defensive mastermind.
