The men's lacrosse team finished an abbreviated inaugural season with a 2-6 record. Coach Brandon Sewell talked about the season and what to expect for 2021.
How do you rate the season despite it getting cut short?
- Despite not being able to finish the last half of our season, I am extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish. We were able to pick up two wins and really control both of those games from the first whistle. There were 3 games in which we didn't get the victory, but we pushed more experienced teams for all four quarters, and we played three games against teams that played at a level that we are aspiring to reach. The amount of experience this inaugural team received in just eight games will be an invaluable asset for us moving forward
What players made the biggest contribution to the season?
- Offensively we had three guys who were on pace to have 40-point seasons as freshmen, which would have been an extremely impressive accomplishment. Tareyon Delgado (19 goals, tied for sixth in USA South), Isaac Fuller (14 goals), and Bobby Hunt (11 goals, 12 assists), all had 23 points through eight games. Each of them contributed to the offense in different ways and we could consistently rely on them to produce!
- Defensively Nate Moore, Josh Hill and Ben Bryan really set the tone for us. Nate led the team in caused turnovers (14), Josh guarded the opposing team's best attackman every game, and Ben played both defense and offense, and also took a lot of faceoffs for us as well.
- It was also clear to everyone that saw us play this year that our goalie Isaac Bohrer (111 saves, first in USA South) had a great season. He made some absolutely spectacular saves and played with a confidence that a lot of freshmen do not have.
What to look forward to for the 2021 season?
- Next season I'm excited to see the continued growth and improvement from this inaugural class and from our incoming recruiting class as well. What we do in the offseason will determine how good we are next spring and based on the hard work that everyone put in this year, I am confident that we'll be a better and well prepared team!
