Olivia Wolfe pitched LaGrange past Berry in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers opened the 2014 season by splitting 4-1 decisions to the Vikings (5-1).
Wolfe (1-0) pitched a complete game two-hitter. She allowed a first inning run, then shut down the Vikings. Wolf allowed only three baserunners over the final six innings. She walked two and struck out two.
Kalin Oglesby had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Wolfe and Courtney Beshel each had a double as the Panthers finished with five hits.
Berry scored in the first inning without getting a hit. Brittany Ferrell walked to lead off the inning, moved up on a sacfice and a pop out before scoring on Sarah Moore's sacrifice fly.
The Panthers tied the game in their half of the first. Oglesby led off with an infield single, then moved up to second on a wild pitch and to third on Dani Gravett's sacrifice bunt. Beshel's double to left field drove in Oglesby to make it 1-1.
In the second inning, the Panthers took the lead for good. Adrienne Little walked and went to second on a sacrifice by Amanda Morier.
Oglesby got her second infield hit to put runners on the corners. She stole second and on the play Little scored on an error to put the Panthers up 2-1. Oglesby later scored on Gravett's ground out to make t 3-1.
The Panthers added an insurance run in the sixth. With two outs and none on, Wolfe doubled to center field. Alison Jiles followed with a single up the middle to score pinch-runner Keeley Murray for the 4-1 final score.
In the first game, the Vikings' Allison Coronado held the Panthers to two hits in going the distance. She walked two and struck out seven.
Gravett (0-1) allowed all four runs in four innings. Amanda Stukel threw three innings of scoreless relief.
The Panthers led 1-0 after the first inning. With one out, Oglesby walked and Beshel singled up the middle. One batter later, Gravett's base hit to left drove in Oglesby. The Panthers loaded the bases before Coronado got out of the inning without further damage.
Berry tied the game in the third then took the lead for good in the fourth. Rachel Bartoe's three-run home to center broke the 1-1 tie.
The Panthers will host Elmira (N.Y.) on Thursday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
