ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - LaGrange's Olivia Wolfe and Piedmont's Brittany Head locked up in a pitcher's duel in the elimination game of the USA South Tournament on Sunday at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.
Head and Piedmont edged Wolfe and the Panthers 1-0 to reach the championship game. The Panthers finished 2-2 in the tournament for a third place finish.
Both pitchers allowed just one hit. Piedmont got the game's only run in the fifth inning. Dani Gravett broke up Head's no-hit bid with a single in the seventh.
Wolfe was selected to the All-Tournament team. In three starts on the mound, she posted a 0.35 earned run average, giving up just one earned run in 20 innings. At the plate, she had a home run and three RBIs.
The Panthers host Agnes Scott on Wednesday in a doubleheader Wednesday begging at 5 p.m.
